Published:

Across California several severe snowstorms have brought heavy snow and gusty winds up and down the state. Taking proactive steps following severe weather event can keep you and your loved ones safe.

As you recover after a snowstorm, keep these important tips in mind:

  • Make sure to check with your local authorities and trusted news sources to see if it’s safe to go outside after a severe weather threat has ended.
  • Survey your property for any downed trees, powerlines or property damage and make sure to contact authorities immediately if you encounter any downed power lines.
  • Check and remove any snow off the roof of your home, garage and any sheds or structures. Leaving snow on a roof can damage your property and can increase chance of damage when the next storm arrives.
  • Check your carbon monoxide detectors in your home and replace batteries if needed.
  • Reach out to your friends, neighbors, and those who may need a hand to recover.
  • If you used any essential items restock and check your Go-Bag and Stay Box to stay prepared for future severe weather events.
  • Take some time to review and understand your insurance policies, reviewing your policies will be helpful if you have any potential insurance claims.
