Testing in California
As of April 2, approximately 94,800 tests had been conducted in California. At least 35,267 results have been received and another 59,500 are pending. These numbers include data California has received from commercial, private and academic labs, including Quest, LabCorp, Kaiser, University of California and Stanford, and the 22 state and county health labs currently testing.

How People Can Protect Themselves
Every person has a role to play. Protecting yourself and your family comes down to common sense:

  • Staying home except for essential needs/activities.
  • Practicing social distancing.
  • Washing hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds.
  • Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Covering a cough or sneeze with your sleeve, or disposable tissue. Wash your hands afterward.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Staying away from work, school or other people if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough.
  • Following guidance from public health officials.

What to Do if You Think You’re Sick
Call ahead: If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough or shortness of breath) and may have had contact with a person with COVID-19, or recently traveled to countries with apparent community spread, call your health care provider before seeking medical care so that appropriate precautions can be taken.

I am a unemployed worker who is a current enrollee receiving UI benefits.
My benefit will be ending in a couple of weeks and I would like to get an extension.
According to the EDD Benefits Guide: Page 12
    Extended Benefits
Extended benefits are available to workers who have exhausted regular unemployment insurance benefits when the unemployment rate equals or exceeds a certain percentage established by state or federal law or when the federal government approves special extended benefit legislation.
Benefits are also extended by 13 weeks for workers who run out of the standard 26 weeks of state benefits (some states offer less).

This came out on Tuesday March 25, 2020
Expanded unemployment benefits: The stimulus plan includes major upgrades to U.S. unemployment insurance, which Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) described as “unemployment insurance on steroids.” The stimulus plan adds $600 per week on top of what unemployment programs normally pay, with that extra cash lasting four months. Benefits are also extended by 13 weeks for workers who run out of the standard 26 weeks of state benefits (some states offer less). The new plan also eliminates the waiting period to receive benefits and includes previously ineligible workers such as freelancers, contractors and furloughed employees.

The Major Disaster Declaration makes federal funding available to state, tribal and local governments for emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance, and makes funding available for crisis counseling for impacted individuals.

1.Unemployment in California exceeds previous unemployment and climbing
2.California has been Declared Major Disaster

Question: As a Current Enrollee does the extension happen automatically or do I need to
apply again? not sure what next steps are. Please Help Help Help
I have tried to contact EDD several times as well as Secretary Julie A Su and Director Sharon Hillard,
no one has provided clarity on this important issue.

    Thank you
