Governor Newsom Places National Guard Personnel on Alert to Support COVID-19 Community Readiness

Published:

SACRAMENTO – Following through on his commitment to mobilize state personnel and assets to protect local communities and fight the spread of COVID-19, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he has placed the California National Guard on alert.

The National Guard has been directed by the Governor to be prepared to perform humanitarian missions across the state including food distribution, ensuring resiliency of supply lines, as well as supporting public safety as required.

“As Californians make sacrifices over the coming weeks and stay home, we are immensely grateful for medical providers, first-responders and National Guard personnel who are assisting those who are most vulnerable to COVID-19,” said Governor Newsom.

Today’s announcement, made in the Governor’s capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the California National Guard, is consistent with duties routinely performed by the California National Guard during natural disasters and other emergencies within the state.

Really! The National Guard?! What are they going to do, force us to stay inside? This is getting ridiculous. We are grown ups for piss sakes! Get a life Newsome but I guess you are going to play with all of your toys since you got to be Governor. Grow up honey. You are costing good people money for no reason.

In the situation we now find ourselves in as a global community it is particularly disheartening to read comments as ignorant and antagonistic as the one’s that ask, “what are they going to do?”, in response to articles that outline what in fact “they” are going to be doing. Are these antagonists just reading the headlines and sending out disparaging, judgmental comments without actually having read the articles? It seems the only logical possibility. It would be idiotic to, after having read the article, send out a comment asking what the National Guard is going to do. The article breaks down a detailed list of 4 or 5 specific things. Who would want represent themselves as that ridiculous by writing such a comment and attacking the Governor for doing his job. Maybe it’s not their real name??`

The article clearly states “The National Guard will perform humanitarian missions across the state including food distribution, ensuring resiliency of supply lines, as well as supporting public safety as required.”
I don’t like everything that Governor Newsom has done, but I don’t think now is the time to be a hater. We’re all in this together and need to provide our support to those in need.
    Let’s just all get along.
