California’s Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System has sent additional Firefighter Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) on 14-day deployments to assist emergency rooms and other vital medical areas in some of California’s most impacted hospitals.
These highly trained firefighters have been requested through the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System, coordinated by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). The mutual aid system which is most often used in response to wildfires, floods and other natural emergencies, and is now assisting in the state’s response to COVID-19.
Since the program began on December 30, 2020, a total of 53 personnel – comprised of 32 Firefighter Paramedics and 21 Firefighter EMTs, have been deployed to California hospitals. Personnel deployed and facility locations include:
Region 1
- Mission Community (Los Angeles County): 4
- Olive View Medical Center (Los Angeles County): 7
- Harbor UCLA Medical Center (Los Angeles County): 3
- Huntington Memorial (Los Angeles County): 7
- Providence St. John’s (Los Angeles County): 1
- UC Irvine Medical Center (Orange County): 1
Region 2
- Petaluma Valley Hospital (Sonoma County): 8
Region 5
- Adventist Bakersfield (Kern County): 10
- Memorial Hospital Los Banos (Merced County): 2
Region 6
- Barstow Community Hospital (San Bernardino County): 3
- Doctors Hospital (Riverside County): 5
- Loma Linda Medical Center (San Bernardino County): 2
Cal OES is continuing to deploy more firefighters across the state in response to the COVID-19 hospital surge, as needed.
