Having successfully created a stable, reliable pipeline of life-saving personal protective equipment (PPE) coming into our state, California today announced millions of additional surgical masks are being sent to aid our out-of-state partners during COVID-19 response.
Continuing its history of neighbor helping neighbor, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has distributed the following PPE out-of-state:
- Arizona: 10,000,000 surgical masks and 500,000 face shields
- Alaska: 3,000,000 surgical masks
Efforts are also underway to distribute additional PPE to more states:
- Oregon: 1,000,000 surgical masks
- Nevada: 3,000,000 surgical masks
Coordinated through the national Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), California has previously sent surgical masks and other supplies to Western States to support the fight against COVID-19.
During times of national disasters, states routinely utilize EMAC to support each other by sharing resources or providing commodities. As outlined in the EMAC Agreement, the State of California will be reimbursed for 100% of the costs of these commodities, by the receiving State.
“California’s sustainable, reliable logistics pipeline has put us in position to assist other states while not impacting the resources needed here. This continues the tradition of states helping one another during times of need,” said Cal OES Director Mark Ghilarducci.
Since the start of the pandemic the State of California has distributed more than 164 million surgical masks and 58.7 million N95 masks.
