Cal Guard: Answering The Call When Disaster Strikes

Published:

California is no stranger to disaster. The coastal state has had more than its fair share of wrath from Mother Nature ranging from devastating earthquakes, monstrous wildfires, damaging floods and crippling drought. Knowing that preparedness and capability is instrumental when it comes to emergency response, California has one of the most robust and tested systems in the world. As a coordinator of emergency response and providing support to local agencies, Cal OES also relies on the strengths of partner public safety agencies. The California National Guard (Cal Guard) is one of the public safety agencies that answers the call when California is in need. They are part of California’s emergency management system backbone and their motto: Always Ready, Always There.

This video illustrates the overall mission of the Cal Guard in California’s disaster response. It also features real-life video of a water rescue that took place this past winter in Plumas County where Cal Guard efforts literally saved a man’s life.
