Wrapping the Route to Being Rooted, Resilient and Ready

Continuing California’s nation-leading work to help vulnerable Californians prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) through Listos California recently concluded the 2024 Disaster Ready Summit events.

The nine-stop, multi-city tour connected more than 540 community-based organizations with resources and information needed to help prepare and protect communities from more frequent and severe disasters.

A total of 675 individuals learned about disaster preparedness, response and recovery, aiming to build community resiliency by fostering relationships with each other through a “by the community, for the community” approach.

Listos California works through local partners who provide culturally and linguistically relevant information and resources to reach communities that haven’t traditionally benefited from such intention and attention. Many of those constituents attended the conference, where they were empowered to deliver culturally congruent education as well as connect and learn from each other’s work and experiences.

“Part of what we do at Cal OES is try to reach people where they are and Listos California is an essential part of that.” – Amy Palmer, Deputy Director of Crisis Communications and Public Affairs at Cal OES
