With Rain Lingering Statewide, Cal OES Prepositions Fire Personnel and Equipment in Multiple Counties

As the state prepares for lingering impacts of a powerful atmospheric river system, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is taking proactive steps to keep people safe and has strategically prepositioned fire engines and personnel in multiple counties to be able to respond if needed. 

The prepositioned fire resources include:

Prepositioned at Riverside Fire Department

  • OES: Riverside Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team 6

Prepositioned at Orange County Fire Authority

  • OES:  Orange County Fire Authority Swift Water Rescue Team 5

Los Angeles County:

  • 1 Local Government Dozer, Type 1
  • 2 Local Government Rescue Swimmers
  • 1 Local Government Hand crew, Type 1
  • 1 Local Government Dispatcher

Orange County:

  • 5 OES Engines, Type 3
  • 2 Local Government Dozers, Type 2
  • 2 Local Government Swift Water Rescue Teams, Type 2
  • 1 Local Government Hand Crew, Type 1
  • 1 Local Government Helicopter with Rescue Swimmer
  • 1 Local Government Dispatcher

The Cal OES Fire and Rescue Branch facilitates the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System, which includes moving more than 270 fire engines from 60 local government resources across the state in support of all-risk emergency response on behalf of local, state and federal government fire organizations.

Cal OES assigns local government fire agencies with fire apparatus to maintain surge capacity during day-to-day duties and major emergencies.
