With Heavy Rain Expected, Cal OES Prepositions Fire Personnel and Equipment in Multiple Counties

As the state prepares for impacts of a powerful atmospheric river system, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is taking proactive steps to keep people safe and has strategically prepositioned fire engines and personnel in multiple counties to be able to respond if needed. 

The prepositioned fire resources include:

Prepositioned at Riverside Fire Department

  • OES: Riverside Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team 6

Prepositioned at Menlo Park Fire Department

  • OES: Menlo Park Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team 3

Prepositioned at Oakland Fire Department

  • OES: Oakland Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team 4

Prepositioned at Sacramento Fire Department

  • OES:  Sacramento Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team 7

Prepositioned at Orange County Fire Authority

  • OES:  Orange County Fire Authority Swift Water Rescue Team 5

The Cal OES Fire and Rescue Branch facilitates the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System, which includes moving more than 270 fire engines from 60 local government resources across the state in support of all-risk emergency response on behalf of local, state and federal government fire organizations.

Cal OES assigns local government fire agencies with fire apparatus to maintain surge capacity during day-to-day duties and major emergencies.
