Six Months After LA Fires, Rapid Recovery Continues

Published:

Six months after the Eaton and Palisades fires in Los Angeles County, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is joining its local, state, and federal partners to highlight the historic wildfire response and recovery across the region.

To date, debris is removed from approximately 90 percent of the 9,800 properties participating in the no-cost federal debris removal program. Hazardous material was removed in February 2025.

These achievements, and many others, were made possible by the contributions of tens of thousands of workers, emergency managers, and volunteers. Other key response and recovery achievements have included:

  • Opening Disaster Recovery Centers that supported over 76,000 survivors.
  • Immediately establishing a Joint Field Office to coordinate state response and long-term recovery.
  • Installing over 122 miles of materials to protect watersheds and rivers.
  • Participating in over 2,800 community events, town halls, and public information sessions.
  • Distributing over $2.9 billion in low-interest loans to help people and businesses.
  • Delivering $139 million in direct federal assistance.
