Over the past several years, the state has experienced an unprecedented number of emergencies and disasters. As these climate-driven natural disasters become more severe in California, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) staff have met each new challenge head-on.
The nearly 2,000 staff at Cal OES have responded to increasingly complex disasters in fresh and innovative ways, strengthening the foundation of emergency management to prepare for, respond to and recover from all types of emergencies and disasters.
This week, Cal OES welcomes you to learn more about Todd Becker, Tsunami Planning Coordinator with the Seismic Hazards Branch at Cal OES. The work he does ensures local communities in California have access to tsunami warnings like tsunami hazard signs that you see in coastal areas.
“I knew I wanted to work with geologic hazards, but I didn’t know where that intersected with people. At Cal OES, I get to take the work we do out to the public and I get to make connections with people and see the lightbulb go off. That is what makes getting up and going to work every day a joy.” Todd said.
Todd has been with Cal OES for over five years. Prior to working as a Tsunami Planning Coordinator, he worked as a Senior Environmental Analyst for the County of Humboldt, Public Works Department, where he coordinated and led the implementation of water quality and environmental compliance programs and projects.
