This week, Cal OES welcomes you to learn more about Diego Navarro, Senior Emergency Services Coordinator with the California State Warning Center.
Diego has been with Cal OES for five years, beginning in the California State Warning Center (CSWC) in 2020 as an Emergency Notification Controller, a position he held for two years. In 2022, he was promoted to Emergency Services Coordinator, where he served for a year before advancing to the role of Senior Emergency Services Coordinator within the CSWC.
As a Senior Emergency Services Coordinator at the California State Warning Center, Diego plays a critical role in overseeing a variety of programs, including staff training and modernization efforts in technology. His primary goal is to provide comprehensive situational awareness through effective communication, both written and oral, while adeptly analyzing emerging threats for internal Duty Officers and external partners.
His responsibilities include preparing and disseminating alert notifications and situation reports, coordinating state and federal resources, and working with over 60 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficient emergency response and planning.
Before joining Cal OES, Diego was a student at California State University, Sacramento, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He also served as a Sergeant in the California National Guard for seven years, working as a Weapons Locating Radar Operator.
