Prepare a Family Emergency Plan During National Preparedness Month

Published:

Experiencing a disaster can be disorienting and stressful.

It can impair your decision-making ability and possibly compromise the safety of you and your loved ones.

Planning is at the heart of preparedness. Protect yourself and your family by creating a family emergency plan before a disaster strikes.

What should you include in your family’s emergency plan?

  • Designated meeting places where you can reunite if you are not together when an emergency occurs.
  • A point of contact outside your immediate region that family members can check in with after a disaster.
  • Contact information for schools, childcare, caregivers and workplaces.
  • Medical and Insurance information.
  • Contact information for neighbors, particularly those who may need help.

Once you’ve created your family emergency plan, rehearse it so each family member knows what they are supposed to do and where they are supposed to go.
