Cal OES accepting applications for supplemental security grant program

In addition to $43 million in FEMA grants secured for hundreds of California nonprofits announced last week, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is now accepting applications for additional funding available from a national pool of money, through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program – National Security Supplemental (NSGP-NSS).

Continuing to work to protect all eligible nonprofits and faith-based organizations from hate-based crimes, the federal funds are made available to all eligible nonprofit organizations in California and nationwide through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for fiscal year 2024.

Out of the $210 million available for NSGP-NSS, $105 million is available to nonprofit organizations located in designated urban areas and $105 million is available to nonprofit organizations located outside designated urban areas. Cal OES is accepting applications from all eligible organizations until December 11.

NSGP-NSS funding aims to enhance physical security to nonprofit organizations that are at high risk for violent attacks and hate crimes due to ideology, beliefs, or mission. Facility upgrades can include reinforced doors and gates, high-intensity lighting and access control systems, and inspection and screening systems.

Cal OES is conducting webinars to explain the application process and all interested organizations are encouraged to attend.
