Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Delivered to Community Vaccination Centers

Published:

To safely and expeditiously vaccinate as many Californians as possible against COVID-19, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today began providing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to new patients at Community Vaccination Centers (CVC).

Dr. Thomas Aragon, State Public Health Director

The two CVC sites – RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland and Cal State Los Angeles in East Los Angeles – will continue to administer Pfizer second dose vaccinations to individuals who previously received their first dose at either the main Community Vaccination Centers or at the Mobile Vaccination Units operated in conjunction with these sites.

Following the completion of the second doses at the main CVC sites, Cal OES and FEMA will begin administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to new patients.

“When I get asked which vaccine is the best, I say the first one that gets into your arm so we can put an end to this pandemic,” said Dr. Tomás Aragón, State Public Health Director.

Johnson & Johnson is a single-dose vaccine as compared to the two doses required for Pfizer and Moderna.

“I want every Californian to have the utmost confidence that this vaccine, and all three vaccines, are safe and effective,” said Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, Surgeon General of California.

The transition to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for new patients at these sites will allow more people to be vaccinated in less time, while continuing to provide a vaccine that is safe and highly effective at preventing COVID-19, including hospitalization and death.

“I encourage everyone to get vaccinated when it’s your turn,” said Dr. Erica Pan, the State Epidemiologist with the California Department of the Public Health. “The sooner we get vaccinated, the sooner we can get back to normal.”

Members of the public may check their eligibility for vaccination, sign up for notifications, and schedule appointments in select areas through https://myturn.ca.gov/.

Vaccine appointments at the two CVCs are available to eligible individuals by visiting the state’s My Turn website or by calling 833-422-4255.
