Progress Continues in Support of Students, Schools

Published:

As of February 14,, students from eight schools that were damaged or destroyed by the Eaton and Palisades fires have resumed instruction in-person or online. In accordance with Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-6-25, the Interagency Schools Task Force worked to support schools and the more than 5,000 displaced students affected by the LA fires.

The Task Force engaged the affected schools to support them in developing a plan to temporarily accommodate displaced students and resume instruction. Seven schools have resumed in-person instruction, and one school is conducting online instruction while in-person instruction plans are finalized.

“We are thrilled that all of the kiddos are learning again!” said Jill Barnes, Cal OES Lead for the Interagency Schools Task Force.

There were multiple schools that were affected by the LA Fires that will undergo debris removal. To date, two of the damaged schools in the Eaton fire area have been cleared by USACE and debris removal started today at a charter school in the Palisades fire area.

Getting students back into a learning environment is a priority. Cal OES is proud to be a part of the Interagency Schools Task Force and support the recovery taking place in Los Angeles County.
