SACRAMENTO – Taking action to ensure that California’s most vulnerable residents can continue to receive health care, food assistance and in-home supportive services in a timely manner during the COVID-19 outbreak, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order today to extend the eligibility period for important safety net services.
“These social safety net programs are so important for families — especially during this crisis,” said Governor Newsom. “We don’t want Californians who rely on these services to lose them.”
The order waives eligibility re-determinations for 90 days for Californians who participate in:
- Medi-Cal health coverage
- CalFresh food assistance
- CalWORKS
- Cash Assistance for Immigrants; and
- In-Home Supportive Services
The change will allow current recipients of these safety net programs to continue receiving them without interruption.
The executive order also waives certain provisions of the Bagley-Keene Act.

My home has been fraudulently placed in receivership by a very talented scam artist. He is sending ill workers, who are not observing the social separation rules. Three of them sitting in the cab of a truck, with one coughing. I doubt that they are legally allowed to work here, yet claim they are doing work because of a court order to put fire sprinklers in my house.
I am 78 years old and have recently been hospitalized due to a reaction to a medication. I must be in my home.
How can they do this to me?
Please call your local police department on their non emergency number. If you can’t find it call 911 and state it’s not an emergency. You may be a victim of elder abuse, it can be taking advantage of you financially and not just physical abuse. The police should be able to connect you with the appropriate local agencies to assist you. Best and stay healthy.
You have the right to send them away! It’s your home.You need to get help from family, a friend or a support system,. Call an Elder Abuse Hotline , or contact the police who can tell you what your options are. There is not enough information in your message to clearly understand your situation. You should know about a court order. Installing sprinklers in your home is not an emergency. All work should stop unless it is a safety issue.
How do you know if they are allowed to work here or not! That is just being Racist. People are just trying to survive and work. There is a reason they are not in your home because of the one coughing he is staying away. Have a heart, everyone is human. Stop making accusations.
Perhaps You should reread her statement. She is stating she doubts they are legally allowed to work at her home. There is underlying legal matters referenced. They arrived 3 abreast in a truck with one coughing, perfect way to spreed viruses to each other, and are in her home working . She is most vulnerable to covid19 and has no where to go while her home is possibly contaminated by unauthorized workers.

I do have to make a dire request. Can you please consider reviewing and waiving the standard base in unemploment? I started my job in mid December and worked full time for the past three months. I was laid off due to the slow down and uncertainty. Due to the standard base period, I only qualify for 63 a week because only my first two weeks of wages in december are counted when ive been earning full wages for the past three months that are counted. The alternate base method would include my latest quarter wages, likely qualify me for the 450 benefit amount, and most importantly and will truly poisition me to not lose everything. At 63 a week, that is a difference of 780 a month creating a pretty hopeless situation for me especially in silicon valley. Please Governor Newsom, consider this item. The standard base period versus alternate base period is the determining factor that will ultimlately determine my livelihood, the alternate base period gives me a fighting chance, and right now, a fighting chance is all im asking.
