California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is bringing together state and local leaders and recovery officials through the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission (Commission) to discuss the earthquakes that occurred locally in December 2022 and January 2023.
On May 23, Commissioners will hear from experts, state and local leaders on the response and recovery efforts for the Humboldt County Earthquakes and discuss future earthquake mitigation to ensure for a more resilient community.
On May 24, Commissioners and experts will continue conversations on the Humboldt County Earthquake, global impact of earthquakes given the 2023 Turkiye Earthquake, and other Commission announcements.
Getting back to work quickly after a natural disaster is critical to the survival of businesses and communities. With California’s ever-present risk of earthquakes, fires, floods and mudslides, mitigation and resiliency are particularly important to recovery.

Alquist Seismic Safety Commission was established in 1975 to advise the Governor, Legislature, State and local government agencies, and the public on ways of reducing earthquake risk to the people of California. The Commission is composed of 15 Commissioners appointed by the Governor, chosen for their expertise and experience.
