Cal OES Prepositions Resources in Southern California in Advance of Forecasted Fire Weather Conditions – UPDATED 1/6/25 5:00 PM

Acting quickly to protect Californians, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is prepositioning resources in advance of forecast fire weather conditions in several Southern California counties.

A wind advisory indicating extreme fire conditions is forecast in Los Angeles, Ventura and San Diego counties tonight through Wednesday, January 8. Damaging wind gusts of 80–100 mph, in combination with low humidity and dry vegetation, have the potential to cause rapidly spreading wildfires.

A total of 65 fire engines, eight water tenders, eight helicopters, 9 dozers have been proactively placed across seven counties. The deployment also includes more than 100 specialized personnel including hand crews, dispatchers and Incident Management Team (IMT) members

These combined efforts ensure both air and ground resources can respond quickly, minimizing the potential impacts of new fires. This proactive approach has proven to be a critical component of California’s wildfire response strategy, reducing response times and containing fires before they escalate.
