With ongoing vigilance to quickly act to protect Californians, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is prepositioning resources in advance of forecast fire weather conditions in several Southern California counties.
A wind advisory indicating extreme fire conditions is forecast in Los Angeles, Ventura, San Diego, Riverside, Orange, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, Kern, Mono and Inyo Counties beginning Monday, January 20, 2025, at 08:00. Winds between 30-50 mph and gusts upward of 80 mph, combined with low humidity and dry vegetation, could potentially cause additional wildfires and grow fires already burning.
Cal OES has proactively placed 113 fire engines, 15 water tenders, 9 helicopters, 9 dozers and more (see below) across each county. The deployment also includes numerous specialized personnel with hand crews, dispatchers and Incident Management Team (IMT) members.
These combined efforts ensure that both air and ground resources can respond quickly, minimizing travel time and the potential impacts of new fires. This proactive approach has proven to be a critical component of California’s wildfire response strategy, reducing response times and containing fires before they escalate.
