As climate change produces more frequent and severe natural disasters, like wildfires, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) encourages all Califorians to take steps now and all-year long to prepare for disasters and emergencies. During heightened wildfire activity, Cal OES emphasizes the importance of being prepared for a wildfire.
Taking a few steps now and talking with friends and loved ones will help reduce the stress caused by an emergency. One important step is creating a go-bag. A go-bag contains some of the essential items you may need if you have to evacaute your home in a hurry.
BUILD A GO-BAG
- Non-perishable food and bottled water
- Cash
- Cell phone charger
- Medications
- Important documents
- First aid kit
- Pet supplies
- Food/Water
- Collar/Leash
- Carrier
- Vaccine information
After building your go-bag, keep it in a place that’s easy to remember in case you need to evacuate your home quickly. Maintain your go-bag by replacing expired items and re-think your needs every year and update your kit as needed.
