2024 Presidential Primary Election Security

Published:

With voting in the March 5 Presidential Primary now underway, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is working closely with local, state and federal partners to support a secure and safe election.

Through the department’s role as the state Homeland Security Agency, Cal OES has been coordinating with partner agencies as part of a state Election Security Taskforce for multiple months to ensure Californians have the right to a free and fair election and security against any domestic criminal activity, including voter intimidation, or influence from foreign actors.

The Election Security Task Force includes partnerships with: California Secretary of State, US Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, California Department of Justice, County Registrars and local law enforcement entities across the state, and social media companies.

Further, the state is in close communication with social media companies to make sure their platforms are not being exploited by foreign actors to spread misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda.
