Over the past several years, the state has experienced an unprecedented number of emergencies and disasters. As these climate-driven natural disasters become more severe in California, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) staff has met each new challenge head-on.
The nearly 2,000 staff at Cal OES have responded to increasingly complex disasters in fresh and innovative ways, strengthening the foundation of emergency management to prepare for, respond to and recover from all types of emergencies and disasters.
This week, Cal OES welcomes you to learn more about Chris Herring, Senior Emergency Services Coordinator (ESC) for Southern Region Response Operations. He’s passionate about providing support to local response partners and the opportunity to give back.
Prior to his position with Southern Region Response Operations, Herring worked for Imperial County as an EMS/Preparedness Manager.
“In my previous role I was fortunate to receive a tremendous amount of support through the State’s robust mutual aid systems,” he said. “I appreciate having the ability to close response gaps for local partners in my role as a Senior Emergency Services Coordinator in the Southern Region.”
As a Senior ESC, Herring works alongside other Cal OES staff, local governments, and non-governmental organizations to provide guidance in all phases of emergency management. He also facilitates the development of local emergency operations plans, trainings, and exercise programs and serves as a primary contact for the Operational Areas to coordinate planning, response, and recovery activities with other state agencies.
