California Expands Prepositioning of Resources as Storm Threatens More Counties

Published:

As the heavy rain arrives, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) today announced that it is expanding resource prepositioning efforts to additional counties across the state. The decision comes after updated weather reports indicate a broader impact area for potential debris flows threats.

“We’re now deploying additional resources to counties that are increasingly likely to experience severe weather or mud and debris flow concerns,” said Cal OES Fire Chief Brian Marshall. “This is part of our commitment to staying ahead of impacts and keeping Californians safe.”

Additional Counties Receiving Prepositioned Resources

Additional strike teams including 24 fire engines, one Urban Search and Rescue company, 8 incident managers, a dispatcher, a helicopter and other resources are being stationed in 7 counties including Ventura, Del Norte, Humboldt, Napa, Butte, Colusa, and Glenn counties. These areas have been flagged due to their vulnerability to either heavy rainfall, proximity to burn scars, or heightened fire weather conditions.

“By coordinating with local first responders and positioning these resources now, we’re improving response times and enhancing the ability to act quickly when emergencies arise,” said Chief Marshall.

Public Safety Remains Priority

Residents in the affected counties are strongly encouraged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to any evacuation orders or safety recommendations. In burn scar areas, officials recommend preparing for the possibility of sudden debris flows by having your go-bag packed and knowing evacuation routes out of your home and neighborhood.
